Week in Review #17

Week in Review

Written By: Michael “Peawok” Fleming

Hey everyone. Happy another week. Nothing too serious happened this week and I’m just grabbing a few CompLexity news posts this time around. Maybe a few others as well. This week was mine and several other colleges’ fall breaks so quite a number of people were away for the weekend, including myself. However, Jason again put me in my spot with his “WHERE IS MY WiR!!!??” I reluctantly took the time to get this out to you. Okay, it wasn’t hard, don’t pity me; Laugh at my work ethic.

Here’s what I found out in the shed.

BlizzCon Comes and Goes

The Blizzcon Crowd
I’m sure a number of you missed the recent BlizzCon event. To sum BlizzCon up in one paragraph or less, it is Blizzard Entertainment’s way of showing off their new games, like StarCraft 2, Diablo 3 and others. Usually – okay, always – we have some kind of announcement about a game. Add that with a sprinkle or two of game play, and you have BlizzCon. A weekend’s helping worth.

This one was no different, as they showed off the third playable class for Diablo 3, the wizard. The Wizard, I’m guessing, has the same abilities as before; Still pretty awesome seeing the wizard return once again. Attendees were able to play Diablo 3 as well and face off against the Skeleton King from the first Diablo. Starcraft 2 was there as well, and again attendees were overjoyed. They got to try out the Protoss Mothership and a few Terran abilities as well. World of Warcraft fans were able to play World of Warcraft as well.

The developers of each of the games sat down to answer questions about different aspects of each game as well. Some news was unveiled about both Diablo 3 and StarCraft 2. My favorite? Oh, definitely “Is there a secret cow level?” Who didn’t love hearing all the “moo” “moo” “MOO!!!” noises? I know I did!

For more information, check out the BlizzCon website.

SteelSeries Releases World of Warcraft Mouse

WoW Mouse...LOL
Just when I thought we had this game contained, we failed. World of Warcraft is going… mouse? SteelSeries, the home to many – including my – professional gaming gear has recently announced a World of Warcraft mouse. I don’t even want to guess how much money World of Warcraft has brought in and cost for Blizzard, but I’m sure it’s more than fifty Bill Gates. Scary thoughts…

Anyway, I laughed when I read the coL community post. “The mouse will sell for less than one hundred dollars.” I mean, come on! I go to Target to buy the Red MX518 so I don’t have to spend the extra ten dollars for the silver one at Best Buy! I go on Amazon.com to purchase my SteelSeries 5Hv2 so I can get it for thirty dollars cheaper. Who is really going to buy this mouse? If you are, please let me know. Thanks.

Zet :: The NiP Tour Released

Zet - Image Property of GotFrag
If you missed it, Zet :: The NiP Tour was recently released by KyleDOTmp4, a fan of CompLexity. He took the highlights from Zet’s NiP career and put them together into a pretty decent movie. I personally enjoyed it, but I wouldn’t rate it as a top ten movie. There were a few ideas I had that could have made it better; all of which, sadly, I won’t share, mainly because I am not a movie maker.

It still is a very good movie, and I especially enjoyed the introduction to the movie. If you haven’t watched it, I would highly recommend at least watching it once. There are few movies about Zet, who many consider one of the best 1.6 players in the world.

David “Taikou” Piatt Dies Suddenly

RIP Taikou
It’s always depressing having someone close die, but I always hate watching great players lose their life. One CompLexity member – I believe her name was Emily – was killed in a car accident several years back. I personally have had some people I knew killed in car accidents or other ways. David “Taikou” Piatt, CompLexity’s DOA taxi player and CGS hopeful, died suddenly October 7th. They are unsure of the cause of death and hopefully the information is passed on to the gaming community.

Many in CGS knew him or – like me – knew of him and I’m sure many players – especially DOA players – are upset to see him go. He was a good player and I’m sure he was a good friend to those who knew him. Keep him and his family in your prayers, if you could.

That’s all I have for this week. I’ll probably wrap up a few things next week, but who knows? That’s what my Sunday afternoons are for! See you next week!

Double post by Jericho, not surprising.

Good read though!

Too bad this WiR had to end with such bad 'news'

Nice review though.

And as the finishing touch, God created the Dutch.

A masterpiece! This is probably the best WIR ever, even better than my WIR's. In fact, this article is a contender for the best article of 2008 and possibly of all time. This article moves me in a way that I have not felt before, you're truly a master of your art peawok, you're words touch the reader to the very core of their soul. You convey such emotion and raw passion, it's simply awe inspiring. Great work my friend, truly.
