CGS Week in Review
Written By: Michael “Peawok” FlemingCPL returning?

If you haven’t heard for whatever reason, the CPL has placed a new release on their website, stating that the CPL was purchased by an independent Middle Eastern company. And even better news; Angel Munoz isn’t involved in CPL activities. He stated, and I quote,
“This acquisition is just the kind of positive support that the international interactive entertainment industry needs. I look forward to seeing CPL continue under new management, adding further accolades to its history.”
Now, if this is true, this could be some of the best news I’ve heard in awhile. It’s too early to say anything other than, “Is this real?”. I pray it is, but a Middle Eastern company picking up a video game team, with a spokeswoman who, when searched online, leads you to pornographic sites, isn’t too promising.
The CPL might be back, but let’s not rush anything. The CPL site claims they will make more announcements by the end of September, but I think that some media sites will have news on this beforehand.
All we can do now is wait…
New CGS CEO.

I mention this for one other reason though. I don’t know if you noticed some comments about Andy Reif leaving, but people apparently believe that Andy leaving means the CGS is slowly dying and he didn’t want to stay in a dying organization. I have to say, I got more ‘lulz’ out of that then most other things that happen in my humorous outings.
Dale Hopkins is a very smart woman. She did lead G4 for quite a while, which, if you are aware, is completely for gamers. She knows us, unlike Reif, whose past experience was pro volleyball. That’s not a criticism of Rief though, because he did what he needed to do; start the CGS. I think he was more of a ‘setting the foundation’ kind of guy, while Hopkins will be more about expanding.
Yes, in my opinion, the CGS is in their first stages of expansion. Maybe – in a few years, of course – the CGS will add more franchises. Who knows?
For now, be happy we got Dale Hopkins. CGS is growing.. and I personally am excited.
ESWC begins!

Our very own CompLexity took the tournament back in 2005, which was their first of many and really started the whole ‘CompLexity fever’.
So, if you have Counter Strike 1.6 and are at all interested in it, I highly recommend watching the HLTV’s. You’re in for some of the best Counter Strike of the year.
Digital Life shuts doors on a 2008 event.

I always enjoyed Digital Life; it was probably one of my favorite tournaments. Seeing it possibly close doors completely is not a good sign for gaming outside of major events like ESWC, WCG, and CGS. Digital Life, in fact, is one of the few remaining tournaments for Source, outside CGS. If we keep losing tournaments like this, how can players even attempt to make CGS? You need a resume if you even plan on beating out the pros, but with less and less tournaments, the resume will become strictly CEVO and CGS. Hopefully some others can pick up where those tournaments left off. Perhaps, if that CPL news is real, they come in and help build the old style for those of us unfortunate enough to not be in CGS.
So what do you want?
I probably shouldn’t ask, but it’s rather important. coL is stepping up on our content big time, and I’m looking for more article series and ideas that help you get involved and give you things you’re interested in. I’m one hundred percent aware only a couple hundred people read my articles, even when there are thousands visiting the site daily. So, I think part of the problem is you want more debatable articles, or the ability to actually get involved in my work.
So, if you have anything you would like me to try and answer (or talk about more indepth), please feel free to message me or leave messages on my week in reviews. I need more stuff to discuss with you guys that you’re actually interested in, not things I think you might be interested in.
So, let me know. coL staff is here for fans, and I want to provide you guys with stuff you will actually enjoy and get involved in.
Thanks guys, and have a great week.
