The fledgling Championship Gaming Series tonight is set to launch the televised portion (DirecTV, Channel 101) of its second season, with six U.S. teams battling for a spot in the league's world championship in July. They'll play top international teams there.
Just like other team-based sports, this league has an annual draft — the first one took place at the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles. Players are paid an annual salary ranging from $15,000 to $25,000. There's also the opportunity for endorsements and prize money, with the members of last year's top team, the Chicago Chimera, splitting $500,000.
