Peawok’s Daily CGS Predictions
Written By: Michael “Peawok” Fleming
It finally happened. I’ve been doing so bad that the L’s have caught up with the W’s and I’m now sitting in the reds. Ahh, well, it’s online. It’s random. It’s a bit of common sense mixed in with three cups of luck and a sprinkle of intelligence. Here were the Forza scores:
Carolina Core > Chicago Chimera 6-1
New York 3D > Dallas Venom 4-3
Los Angeles CompLexity > San Francisco Optx 4-3
Record: 1-2
Overall Record: 22-24
As you can see, I’ve done pretty terrible over the past week. Not much to say about me. Let’s talk about Forza.
Jason Lake was right. Forza is a horribly random game. I still stick by my “just keep it close” philosophy, too. Who cares if your team is zero wins and however many loses? One point in the reds won’t affect you.
Personally, I find Forza to be the most boring game by far. I have never enjoyed racing and with how little Forza affects the scores, it just makes me yawn. I’ll admit it isn’t as bad as golf, but really, what can be? I’m sure some enjoy Forza (see: the players), but I can’t stand it. Collisions, while fun, ruin the game for me. It’s not about speed – it’s about who can ram better and have better luck. That to me isn’t skill. I don’t know if it’s the online play, but I believe it may be part of it. I guess we’ll have to wait and see once the season starts.
I’ve also been hearing a lot about DOA and “any given Sunday”. I think the division is much closer than last year, but I do think we’ll have a clear-cut winner by at least two games. The second place finisher will be behind him by a game, while the rest are all a few points or a game behind each other. It’s hard to tell, with the online play, just how good the DOA players are. I can’t wait for the season to begin to see just how much the online factor has affected the games.
That’s enough of that for now. We’ll talk about today’s DOA and give more thoughts tomorrow. Here’s my predictions:
Tuesday, May 13: Dead or Alive 4
Offbeat Ninja vs. Dave Chappelle
I was gonna give some witty remark for Offbeat’s play, but I think that it should get right to the point. The guy’s sandbagging like crazy and is nowhere near as terrible as he has been playing. Regardless, I don’t believe he is “Mr. CGS” like he was last season. The guy may be a great player, but, in my opinion, he isn’t in the top two this season. That’s not to say he’s far behind all or any of the players – he just has a lot more competition and his “turtle-style” Ein just won’t work anymore.
Dave Chappelle has surprised me to some degree. He has kept games close and even beat Black Mamba. I still, however, wouldn’t put him near my top two. Could he place third? It’s possible, but in my eyes, unlikely. Still, though, you can’t count him out of any match. If Offbeat learns he isn’t in Galveston or New Orleans, we may see a stronger player. Sorry, though – he’s still thinking he’s in a major flood. Chappelle takes this convincingly.
Dave Chappelle wins
5-2
Mystik vs. Coolsvilla
The old number two goes up against my new number two this week. Mystik is a great player and I believe she is the number two DOA Female. The girl has the skill and as long as her nerves don’t get to her she will be a very tough opponent. She proved just how deadly and important her success is to Carolina at Worlds. I like her chances this week, especially if she uses Hayate.
Coolsvilla seems to have turned it on in the recent weeks. She took down Phoenix using a secondary. That’s great, but also random. I doubt Coolsvilla will use Gen Fu much during the regular season, but it’s nice to see that she has a larger arsenal. I hope she uses one of her main characters this week, because it will help me in figuring out just how good she is. I’m going to give the game to Coolsvilla this week.
Coolsvilla wins
5-3
MASTER vs. Perfect Legend
Master comes into this match as the only undefeated male remaining. He’s a great player and I’ve been pushing him higher and higher in my standings as he proves to me time and time again that he’s still a top contender. I don’t think MASTER will be number one at the end of the regular season, but number two is definitely a possibility. It might just be his style; He’s a tough guy and can beat everyone on any given day, but he might fight too lax at times. He best not play like that this week, or Perfect Legend will destroy him.

I’m sure PL is quite upset he lost to Ninja CW last week. It was unfortunate, and I blame quite a lot of it on the online play. I thought NinjaCW would be the one to upset PL during the season. Guess I got that one wrong. If I know PL (and I don’t), he’ll come out with a fire and look to destroy Master. To me, Perfect Legend seems like the kind of guy who loves to beat the champion. If he wins a tournament, he won’t be happy unless he beat last year’s winner. He gets his chance to take down the best in the league this week. The match will be very close, but PL will take it – Jake can’t have him lose two in a row.
Perfect Legend wins
5-3
Editors note: Dallas has decided to use Swoozie for this match.
Phoenix vs. Belle
Phoenix comes into this match quite hyped up by a number of people, including myself. I think she is still one of the best females in the league and I believe that if anyone takes down Vanessa, it will be her. She had a tough match against Coolsvilla, but Belle will likely be an easier challenge for her. Still, though, she can’t misjudge Belle’s skill.
Belle comes into this match after a loss to Vanessa. No, it wasn’t devastating. Vanessa just – how do you guys put it – “pwns”. I wouldn’t take anything away from Belle’s skill because of her play against Vanessa. In fact, Belle played fairly well to start, but lost it towards the end. If she can take what she did right in those first few rounds, she should pose quite a threat to Phoenix. I won’t give Belle the win this week, though. Watch – She’ll probably show me up and win 5-0…
Phoenix wins
5-3
NinjaCW vs. Black Mamba
NinjaCW has played all right so far this preseason. He beat PL last week and beat Offbeat in Week One. However, I don’t think he is in the top three. He’ll cause some upsets, such as the match against PL, but I don’t see him destroying the opposition. However, he’s going up against Mamba this week and he should pose quite a challenge for the World Finals MVP.
Black Mamba has played all right so far. He hasn’t been the dominant force he was in the Worlds, but remember; Region One’s DOA is much stronger than the globes. He should defeat most of his opponents at least once, but I don’t think we’ll see him in the top two at the end of the season. Maybe number three. He should play well against NinjaCW this week and that’s enough for me to give him a close ‘W’.
BlackMamba wins
5-4
Vanessa vs. Kasumi Chan
I was excited for this matchup, but since KC is sandbagging possibly worse than Offbeat, there isn’t much to say. Vanessa is a beast and should have no trouble disposing of Kasumi Chan 5-2 or 5-3, at best. Vanessa still is the number one female by far and will remain as such for at least another season.
Kasumi Chan hasn’t done anything for me, much less her team, this preseason. I don’t know who she or Flander think their fooling. It’s obvious she isn’t trying her best and it’s just embarrassing to watch her matches. Unless Kasumi Chan flips a switch that’s kept at Fort Knox which has been put through a time machine and is guarded by sharks with fricken lazer beams on their heads, we won’t see any better than 5-2.
Vanessa wins and wins…
5-2
That’s It everyone. Nothing too fancy today. See you tomorrow with a recap and a new set of predictions!
