Loki's Life: A Look Back

Posted by: DetonatoR

This article is the opinion of the author and not necessarily that of the LA compLexity or its parent companies.

Loki's Life: A Look Back

The season has now been over for a full day and I’ve had some time to reflect upon things. First of all I’d like to point out that I attended the UK/EU CGS Combine in the Omega Sektor, Birmingham in May. The reason I point this out is because I’ve come a long way from failing to get drafted (a feeling that I’ve only just let my bitter feelings go on) to writing for compLexity in Los Angeles for the summer. I make it no secret that I’m quite a sensitive chap and sometimes I let that spill into my writing, which for all intents and purposes is not the best of things to happen. I've taken a lot of flak over some of the things I've written and sometimes it's rightly so but other times I will admit that my honesty just doesn't gell well with some people who are naturally hostile. I won't name anyone but I will say that I have since 2006 disliked a certain forum individual.

I've gone from writing for compLexity to writing for Birmingham Salvo, to it not working out with my fellow Brits and me asking for a place back at LA compLexity again where within a week I had the opportunity to come to LA for 5 weeks! Not a bad opportunity at all to be honest. So now I'm sitting here on the floor of the practice room that is B102 writing this blog and thinking about some of the things that have made this season what it was. The first thing that I remember is the inconsistency of the franchise as a whole. There have been many articles written about the squad in its entirity and how there really hasn't been any signs of all 10 players being hot at the same time to grab a win. This was of course before the 2 wins in a row that we had at the end of the season, one of which was against our biggest rivals 3D.NY. Sitting there watching coL.css win over 10 rounds in a row to take the game 12 – 6 was like watching a World Finals, with us coming out victorious.

The other teams may have taken the wins all season and, with the exception of Chimera, all other teams may be in the play offs but the one thing they can never take from us, are our two wins that we truly did earn at the last foot of the race. It’s true that in some games the CSS guys would choke or PL would freeze or the Forza guys would slam on the brakes performance wise, but in spirit we played like it was the big game every week. And that, amongst all of the things I thought would be different when I met compLexity, was the one thing I knew would not just be what they wanted people to see. This is not to say that anything I thought was just public face didn’t turn out to be. It was rather the fact that some things are a little bit raw and a tad more in your face when you see if first hand.

I’ve made some great friends and I’ve yet to make any enemies. I’ve held my tongue when flamers united to burn down the bandwagon they’d just jumped off or people who couldn’t state an opinion without being a complete moron about it. I’ve sat and watched rival teams that I thought were enemies drink together and laugh about a loss they’d just had against the very people they were buying the drinks with. I’ve watched as compLexity fans have asked for nothing but the best from coL when it comes to effort and still never got angry when they couldn’t deliver a win because the very thing they asked for was answered every single game. I’ve met Jason Lake’s family, loads of e-celebs and seen things I thought I’d never see and you know what? I wouldn’t change any single moment of it. The losses, the frustration and the tension have all built me into a stronger, more passionate and efficient person today and I thank everyone I’ve met this summer for doing that for me and for doing what I said before for them.

I’ll be leaving on the 12th of July for home and as much as I’ve loved my time here and all the experiences I’ve had it will be a relief to see my family, friends, dog and homeland…where rain actually exists. Thank you to LA compLexity, Jason Lake, Chavi, GTO, KreeganBG, Belle, Warden, fRoD, Storm, Hanes, Rambo, Perfect Legend, Detonator, tfg, Renji, the woman in the pool, The CGS for putting us all up in this kick ass apartment complex, my parents, Team Alpha, my friends back home and every single person I’ve met in my time over here. You’ve changed my life and I hope I made enough of an impact for you to have remembered my name because I’ll sure as heck remember yours for as long as my memory allows it.

Loki loves you and loved LA…

When fate throws a dagger at you, there are only 2 ways to catch it: by the blade or by the handle.
