Jason Lake GGL Interview

Posted by: Lokizzle

Jason Lake Tells All in GGL Interview

The founder and GM of compLexity recently sat down with GGL Wire and completed a long and detailed interview about the 2008 season. It's a must read for compLexity fans, as Mr. Lake goes into detail about his thoughts of the season, his life, and his future.

Here are some snippets:

GGL: You said once that you believe we have different seasons in our lives. What season do you feel Complexity is in its life cycle?

JL: I believe we’re finishing the first one-third. We’ve got the most loyal fan base in the world and we just got dealt a giant dose of humility by the good Lord. Ironically I think nothing could have been better because this franchise needs to show people again why they love us. They don’t love us because we win world championships. They love us because we try every day to define the better traits that human beings strive for. We’ll keep trying to do that, win or lose, but obviously the goal is always to win.

GGL: Why do you think Complexity placed last this season?

JL: We placed last because of the inability of very talented people to do their jobs. This includes myself because at the end of the day I take 100 percent responsibility. The three squads that were supposed to really carry us were actually our biggest problems. Counter-Strike, FIFA, and Perfect Legend (Complexity’s Dead or Alive 4 male player, Carl White) all didn’t show up this year. I’m proud of them for never quitting, but our biggest problem this year was that the people who needed to show up didn’t do so.

GGL: Has the fan base been very supportive through this season?

JL: The 15-25 private messages I get a day on our website are, some days, the only reason that I can keep going. The real Complexity community members have stood by us through thick and thin. It’s almost refreshing to get rid of the bandwagon kids. It’s like taking a long, hot shower. We want our fans that live, bleed, and die with us because that is what we try to deliver to them. Good riddance to the bandwagon kids who like whoever is number one at that moment. You were never a real fan to begin with, you never understood what Complexity stands for, and we’re glad you’re following another team right now.

Thanks for your support!

good interview. NOT ALL UR FAULT. hate when i read that and u say u take all the blame.

1. You drafted these players seeing that they could bring u a championship. They didnt preform. It falls on them more than it does u. The only thing i can see being 100% ur fault is redrafting belle.
But how could u have seen kreegans bad season.

2. All u can do is pick urself up and dust urself off. U know what u need to do next season.

GL and keep your head up Lake. you will be #1 once again as u are #1 in many of our hearts.

Jake I am gonna be honest. I use to have a lot of respect for you, but then you go and say stupid crap in a interview. If you and your sorry CSS team think 1.6 has better gameplay, and prefer the game, then go play 1.6 and leave CSS to people that can play the game and love it.

You have constantly made bad decisions. One of which was the belle situation. who in there right mind drafts a player that isn't remotely close to pro caliber. When there were plenty, and I mean plenty of actual PRO players that you passed up. And look where your at now. She has managed a record of what 1-24.

Honestly I could care less about the Belle situation, but the fact that you weasle your way into CSS, milk off it, then say it has bad gameplay. What the hell do you know about gameplay. You coached a team that went what 2-10. You have no right to talk about anything but the terrible performance of some of your players.

Delete this comment all you want. But take it to heart before you do. Because what you are is a two faced person. You can milk all you want off this game, but your so called CSS team will never pull itself off the ground until they get some real CSS talent.

You think your CSS team did so good last year. Well let me clue you in on something. The market last year was full of nothing but 1.6 players coming over and trying to play source. well this year is completely different. the teams that looked towards true CSS talent are the ones that are doing good. Maybe your so called CS team should spend a little more going over how they play the game, instead of making excuses for there poor performance.

All in all thanks for splitting the community more. Now I can spend my days again, going over the 1.6 vs source argument.

A true man would leave this comment up, and acknowledge his mistakes, and correct them.

Your turn Lake, whats your next move?

"You can milk all you want off this game."

Jason put over 400,000 into Esports.

CGS paid him 100,000 for the CompLexity brand.
He made about (a huge guess) an additional 10,000-50,000 from other sponsorships.
He is on 50,000 a year for being a CGS GM.
He has never taken a dime from his players' tournament winnings.

(This was in the Game Boys book that was recently released by Michael Kane)

In all, Jake has made - at most - 300,000 from his 400,000+ investment. And that's being generous.

---------

You can think whatever you want of Jake, but don't say he's "milking" CS, or Esports, for all its worth. That was only part of what he wanted (you have to make a living somehow) when he started coL, and after 5 years he still is in the red.

I understand what you are saying, but please re read what I wrote, because I did not state he is milking off cs or esports. I said he was milking off CSS. There are plenty of true CSS players that love the game and want to see it expand. But to play a game that you do not love is just a slap in the face to all true css players that want to become pro one day. Maybe I was wrong to use the wording "milk", but to play any sport for the money and not the love of a game is two faced.

Name a pro team, player or manager, that simply stated I am only here for the money, not for the love of the game.

All I am saying is if his 1.6 players do not like source then go play 1.6, and draft players that have love for the game. Because believe it or not, If a player believes in the game and holds honor for it, then they will naturally be better than someone there simply for the money. You cannot argue this.

I am just so sick of this 1.6 vs Source argument. And it doesn't help when people of importance ( Lake for example ) talk down a game that they play. As a leader, you have to be more selective in your words. A leader would see the connection in a for once joint CS community. But talk like this does not help bring the cs side of esports out.

Let me state this also. I respect Lake for what he has been apart of, and what he helped to create. No one can take that away. But I lost that respect, when he makes comments like this and further divide the community.

They're playing css because its the best thing for esports at the moment.

and name the PLENTY of pro players that could replace belle...because the only other female that coulda replaced her at the combine was rtea....

and i could pick apart the rest of your threads but i gotta get up in 8 hrs so id rather get some cs in, instead.

But jake....honestly peace out??? ewwwwww lol

That whole love for the game ***** is bull ; even if someone believes in the game that doesn't mean they will play better than someone who doesn't believe in the game. Jason isn't talking down the game that much , he is stating facts. I mean everyone knows that 1.6 in gameplay is better but source has good graphics for tv etc.
How is saying that the cs:s team prefers 1.6 gonna divide the community? I mean since frod says he prefers pie over cake then all the cake lovers will divert to the Optx forums!!!!! OH NO!!!!
